Red Light Therapy Dose

Red Light
Therapy Dose

“A higher irradiance and dose are not necessarily better. In fact, too much light can be damaging.”

According to Professor Michael Hamblin

“In general, a few j/cm2 of red or near infrared light will be beneficial, but a large dose such as 50-100j/cm2 will be detrimental. At least the good effect will go away and there may be detrimental effects. So this has been shown in many many papers, and one of my research interests is to try and figure out why this is.”

Professor Michael Hamblin is arguably the world’s most published and cited authority on low lever laser therapy (aka photo biomodulation and red light therapy).

NEO LIGHT BED DATASHEET

We recommend a dose of 25 J/cm2, which we have seen as most beneficial. At and irradiance of 54.13 mW/cm2 it only takes 8 minutes to achieve this dose.

Professor Hamblin was correct with his prediction in 2009 that the topic of low level will become increasingly popular with advances in technology. Redlight therapy has become a staple treatment in wellness, preventive medicine, recovery, and wound healing.

But the Biphasic Dose Response remains today:
The right dose of light shows proven benefits, while too much light shows a diminishing return and can even be damaging.
